국문초록
북한은 일찍이 영화와 애니메이션을 강력한 대중 선동과 교양의 수단으로 인식하였다. 그래서 북한의 경우는 처음부터 정부 차원에서 분명한 목적을 가지고, 애니메이션 제작에 대한 결정을 하고, 제작을 지원했다. 이런 이유로, 북한의 첫 번째 애니메이션은 북한 애니메이션의 정체성을 이해할 수 있는 중요한 출발점이 되는데, 국내에는 제작 연도와 작품명에 대한 여러 가지 주장이 존재하므로 이에 대한 검증 작업을 통해 1960년에 제작된 만화영화 <금도끼와 쇠도끼>와 인형영화 <신기한 복숭아>가 북한의 첫 애니메이션 작품이라는 것을 증명한다. 이렇게 두 개의 애니메이션 작품이 제작되기까지 적어도 북한은 5년의 준비 기간이 있었으며, 당시에 같은 사회주의 국가들인 구소련과 중국, 체코슬로바키아와의 문화적 교류와 협력도 있었다. 이들 작품은 모두 전래동화를 각색했다는 서사적 공통점이 있는데, 이는 이후 북한 애니메이션의 독특한 서사 방식이기도 하다. 그리고 인물과 배경의 조형적인 부분에서 보이는 성과와 아쉬운 점은 이후 북한 애니메이션 발전에 중요한 토대가 되었다.

Abstract
North Korea was early in recognizing movies and animations as powerful means of instigating and refining the general public. Accordingly, in the case of North Korea, decisions were made and supports for the production of animations were provided at the government level with definitive goals from the beginning. For such reason, the first animation in North Korea is an important starting point in understanding the identity of animation in North Korea. Since there are numerous and differing arguments on the year of the production and the title of the animation in South Korea, this Study aims to prove that the animation film Golden Axe and Iron Axe and puppet movie Amazing Peach produced in 1960 are the first animation works in North Korea through verification works. North Korea had at least 5 years of preparations for the production of these 2 animation works, including cultural exchange and cooperation with socialist countries such as the former USSR, China and Czechoslovakia at the time. Both of these works have the descriptive similarity that both are adaptations of traditional fairy tales of Korea, which has become the characteristic descriptive format of the animations of North Korea thereafter. Moreover, the achievements and shortcomings illustrated in the formative aspects of the characters and backgrounds became an important foundation for the progress of animation in North Korea.
