북한 만화영화 속 여성 재현 연구: 북한 체제의 여성 담론 변화를 중심으로(박수진)

본 연구는 북한 당국이 기대하는 바람직한 여성상과 그에 따른 여성 담론의 변화를 확인하고자 하였다. 북한은 영화를 통해 주민들에게 당국의 규범을 교육하고자 한다. 따라서 본 연구는 시기에 따른 여성 담론의 변화를 알아보기 위해 북한 당국이 제작·방영한 영화 중 가장 오랜 기간 제작·방영한 만화영화 「소년장수」를 선정하였다. 해당 시리즈 속 여성 등장인물을 분석 대상으로 선정하여 대사 텍스트 분석과 이항 대립 구조 분석 방법을 통해 여성 등장인물을 분석하였다.
분석 결과 김정일이 북한 “최고 지도자” 지위에 있던 시기와 김정은이 그의 자리를 물려받은 후에 해당하는 두 시기 모두 여성에게 가정과 사회를 “돌보는 훌륭한 아내이자 어머니, 혁명투사” 역할 수행을 강조하였다. 다만, 2010년대 이후 제작·방영한 「소년장수」 후반부 여성 등장인물에게 민족 고유의 미풍양속을 구현하고 계승하는 주체가 되어야 하며 과학기술로 북한 경제와 안보에 이바지해야 한다는 부담이 추가되었다. 또한 결혼한 여성에 대한 가정에서 역할을 강조하는 모습을 확인할 수 있었고, 부부 사이 불평등한 관계가 지속되고 있다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 이와 같은 결과를 통해 기존 북한 당국의 주장과 다르게 당국의 여성 담론 속에서 여성은 시간이 갈수록 과중한 부담을 지고 가정과 사회 모두를 책임져야 한다는 점을 알 수 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 여성은 가정과 사회에서 차별받고 있다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다.

Abstract
This study aims to confirm the desirable image of women expected by the North Korean authorities and the change in women’s discourse accordingly. North Korean authorities try to teach their residents the norms through films. Therefore, this study select “The Boy General” to see changes of women’s discourse over time. The film is the longest-running animation. For the research subjects, female characters, were analyzed through metabolic text analysis and binary opposition structure analysis methods.
Analysis showed no huge significant difference between the women’s discourse at a time when Kim Jong-Il was in North Korea’s “Supreme Leader” position and the discourse after Kim Jong-Un took over his father’s post. Both periods emphasized women’s performance as “a great wife and mother who cares for both home and society, and as a revolutionary fighter.” However, the burden of inheriting the unique customs of the nation has been added to the female characters in the second half of “The Boy General,” which has been produced and broadcast since the 2010s. In addition, it was confirmed that they emphasized the role of married women at home. And also it confirmed that the unequal relationships between couples continue and that the North Korean authorities try to emphasize these contents.
Through these results, it was confirmed that, contrary to the existing North Korean authorities’ claims, women still have to take on a heavy burden and play a role in both the home and society in the discourse of women by the North Korean authorities.
